Hassan at a Motel in Zahedan |
On September 9th we started our journey, carrying the friendship message of Iranian Nation to all over the world. This journey is the first in history of Iranian sport. We expect a two year period for our trip. At the start of our trip in a media conference with the participation of Mr. Jasbi (head of Azad University), Mr. Faeghi (vice-head of sport organization), we explained the objectives and plans of our journey. In our trip from Tehran to south-east (border of Pakistan) we had to pass from warm and dry provinces. We have the experience of three other international cycling tours in Europe and Middle East. |

We entered Pakistan from Mr. Javeh border of Iran, at first look we depressed with the low level of standard of living. Most villagers make their living by smuggling gas, diesel, and other goods from Iran. The transit road was too narrow to accommodate two cars passing beside each others.
Islamabad (capital) was different from other cities. It was built recently and the traffic was under control of the police to some extents. We suffered a lot from the spicy foods that Pakistanis make. And sometimes we had to take a bath in Jacuzzis.
|
On the roads we could not find any tourism facilities, even rarely we could find drinkable water. Because of religion conflicts the security level, particularly for tourists is low and we had to wear Pakistani clothes. Cities were not better than villages: very crowded, disordered and messy. And surprisingly, you can find haircut shops beside the roads and streets.
|
Custom of India was the first custom that investigated our baggage and the staff asked for tip. Roads were better than Pakistan, but still cycling was dangerous in roads. India is second populated country and you can not find any cozy place for rest. By stopping in any location we gathered a crowd around of us, that stayed for several hours. During our trip in India we saw different animals. One night we spent in the forest and the curious eyes of monkeys watches us whole the night. And one alligator frightened us. In order to visit Golden Temple we had to cover our heads to respect their traditions.

Bangladesh
is a small, populated, messy country with many rivers. The standard of
living is no better than Pakistan or India. Rarely you can find cold,
drinkable water. Except
of Dhaka and Chit gong people in other cities live in forests. Tourists are
strangers for them and any location that we stopped, a huge crowd gathered
around of us looking with surprise.

Malaysia
has beautiful nature that accompanied with considerable economic growth in
recent years. We arrived in rainy season and we had cycle from early
morning and stop afternoon to avoid rain.
We received considerable escort from Police of Malaysia. When we get out of Johor Bahro toward Singapore early morning, we found a heavy traffic of motorcyclists who directed to work. |
In Malaysia we found a lot of new building and reconstruction of old cities. Twin Towers (left) are known as the highest towers in the world
|
Small island of Singapore accommodates many cultures, attracts tourists from all over the world, and records a high economic growth rate. Whether was humid during our stay and the island is so small that you can get around of it several times during a day. And you get lost among high rises of the islan.
|
|
We left Singapore and entered Batam island by ferry in half an hour. The difference of two countries is very obvious. At our entrance people particularly young's curiously asked us many questions In thirty Km far from Jakarta the minatory of the country is one the sight seeing of Indonesia

Japan
brought us to a totally different world: hard working, polite, at the same
time cold and calm nation. The scarcity of the land forced them to use it
efficiently and in smaller scale. Unfortunately few people know foreign language and when we missed the way in complicated roads of cities, we where in big trouble. Every Japanese even need the map to find out the way.
|
The center of tourism in Tokyo is Ropongi Street. Expenses in Tokyo is high and even Japanese prefer to spend their vacation in other countries rather inside country. Cycling is popular in the cities and the pedestrians have to share the narrow road ways with cyclists.

Entering Norway, in the cold and cloudy weather of Kristiandsand, we started to pedalling towards Oslo. We passed through beautiful routes with incredible mountains, rivers and lakes, which with its beauty made these very tough and hilly roads much easier to overcome. |

We were always treated with respect and encouragement by the Norwegians. Many of them told us, repeatedly, that our task made them feel more hopeful and vivid. On many occasions we were, most kindly, even invited for both beverage and food. After 5 days of biking we reached the calm harbour city of Oslo where we accidentally entered a Iranian restaurant and shop. These loveable countrymen had seen us through the media exposure that we have had and gave a extremely hospital treatment. Through them we also got to know some more countrymen of ours and even had an interview with a local radio station. Unfortunately we also ran into some self-caused problems, when we parked our bikes in a rental apartment building's private storage room. Thinking Oslo being a safe town, we only took our passports and let the rest be on the bikes. Coming back to the storage room we realized that part of our money, our cameras and some of other stuff had been stolen. However this will not affect our feelings for the Norwegians, or as we Iranians say: It costs to gain experience and one should have been more careful, and we now continued our journey towards Sweden. |
